<strong>Mystic</strong> Masonry.<br />

<strong>and</strong> functions, <strong>and</strong> dealing with matter <strong>and</strong> f<strong>or</strong>ce.<br />

Just as experience <strong>and</strong> reflection taught him <strong>the</strong><br />

laws <strong>and</strong> processes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> physical plane, so his exp<strong>and</strong>ed<br />

<strong>and</strong> refined experience <strong>and</strong> intuitions (spiritual<br />

perceptions) teach him <strong>the</strong> laws <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> higher<br />

plane.<br />

But, says <strong>the</strong> physiologist, on <strong>the</strong> physical plane<br />

man has evolved physical <strong>or</strong>gans which bring him<br />

in contact with Nature on that plane. Even so it is<br />

on all planes, f<strong>or</strong> analogy is <strong>the</strong> key <strong>of</strong> interpretation,<br />

"As below, so above."<br />

Deep within <strong>the</strong> recesses <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> skull, lying at <strong>the</strong><br />

base <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> brain, is a curious little structure known<br />

as <strong>the</strong> Pineal Gl<strong>and</strong>—with <strong>the</strong> Restif<strong>or</strong>m bodies.<br />

Modern physiology assigns to it no function. Des<br />

Cartes called it "<strong>the</strong> seat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> soul." In <strong>the</strong> average<br />

individual it is small <strong>and</strong> apparently useless,<br />

though its focalized position <strong>and</strong> symmetrical relations<br />

to surrounding structures would seem to assign<br />

to it some very imp<strong>or</strong>tant <strong>of</strong>fice. It presents a different<br />

appearance in <strong>the</strong> very young, <strong>the</strong> very old,<br />

<strong>and</strong> in <strong>the</strong> idiotic, from that found in <strong>the</strong> prime <strong>of</strong><br />

life, health, <strong>and</strong> vig<strong>or</strong>. It has been called "<strong>The</strong><br />

Third Eye." <strong>The</strong> Ancient Hindoos called it <strong>the</strong><br />

Eye <strong>of</strong> Siva, <strong>and</strong> it should be b<strong>or</strong>ne in mind that<br />

Siva is <strong>the</strong> third person in <strong>the</strong> Hindoo Trinity, <strong>and</strong>
