carried out. While preliminary results have been documented (Telford and
Verma 1978), full details of the operation were not available for release at time
of writing (January, 1979). Eight holes, totalling about 1176 m, were drilled in
a general east-west direction along the southern margin of the Moose River Ba
sin between Hecla and McBrien Townships. At the same time, an outcrop sam
pling and reconnaissance programme was carried out along Adam Creek in
Kipling Township (Verma and Telford 1978). Several of the drillholes encoun
tered lignite seams and an in situ lignite outcrop was discovered in the bed of
Adam Creek. Considerable study and laboratory analyses are presently being
carried out on samples (core and chips) obtained during the drilling, and the re
sults are to be transmitted in future reports of the Ontario Geological Survey.
