CHAPTER 14<br />

Kirstin investigates<br />

That same afternoon as David was struggling for his life<br />

in the tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef, Kirstin Hansen<br />

and her granddaughter, Elizabeth, were attending a cul-<br />

tural function on the shore of Canberra‟s Lake Burley Griffin.<br />

It was an ecumenical affair and the main Christian denomi-<br />

nations were represented. Elizabeth joined some friends and<br />

Kirstin was free to wander. She passed groups engaged in<br />

Greek dancing, Scottish reels and Irish jigs. Beneath a tree<br />

she found what she was looking for. Some ladies were col-<br />

lecting money for a school in Africa and Cecilia Paget was<br />

amongst them. She appeared more on edge than usual and<br />

her eyes were red as if she had been crying.<br />

„Kirstin, could you spare a moment?‟<br />

Cecilia ran across to her.<br />

„I‟m so worried. I just don‟t know what to think …‟<br />
