rtalm, as tolerable oxygen levels penetrate to a greater depth within the sedimelll<br />

(Botsford, 1988). The higher overall oxygenation levels within the Mainland formation<br />

may indicate that the Mainlaoo formation was deposited in shallower water than the<br />

American Tickle formation, or llIrbidity currents and possibly bUllom (urrents<br />

periodically or constantly brought oxygenated waters into the basin. Botsford (191111) has<br />

suggested that an increase in bioturbation from the Cooks Brook Formation 10 lhe Middle<br />

Arm Point Formation in the Humber Arm Allochthon indicates an iocrease in bllllum<br />

curremactivlty.<br />

At the main Three Rock Cove section (see appeooix 2. location map I) the<br />

paleocurrent directions are p~edominantly to the south. however at lhe section overlying<br />

the Cape Cormorant Formation south ofthe village ot' Mainland (~appendix 2, location<br />

map I) paleocurrent directions are to lhe nonhwesl.<br />

In Victor's Brook, a locality flOt visited by the author. an occurre:lCe of sandstone<br />

previously imerpretedas a large clast in melange (Williams, 1984} has been reimerllreted<br />

by Corney (1991) as a continuous section through the upper pari of the parautochthon<br />

which is terminated by the basal thrust of the Humber Arm Allochthon. Overlying the<br />

Table Head Group. Corney (1991) has recognised a saooslOne unit similar IU the<br />

Mainland formation which contains in its lower part a limestone conglomerate member<br />

similar to the Daniel's Harbour Member of the American Tickle formation. In the upper<br />

part of the section a number of conglomerate horizons occur which appear similar in<br />

their description to the Howe Harbour member, although large rafts 01" the Ilumber Arm<br />

Allochthon shales are incorporated in the section. The total thickness of the SCl:tion
