Motion for a Resolution

according to article 25 of the Rules of Procedure
The European Parliament
- believing that the people of the Western Sahara has the right
to se1f~determination ;
- noting that Morocco, having occupied one part of the Western
Sahara, has now annexed Thiris e1 Gharbial (the part of Western
Sahara which was administered by Mauritania and which, as a
consequence of the Algiers Peace Treaty of 5 August 1979 has
been transfered to the Polisario Front)
- believing that this action transgresses the UN Resolution of
20 July 1979 :
Calls upon the governments of the Nine to vote in favour of
the resolutions introduced at the United Nations, which claim
the right of self-determination for the Sahroui people, disapprove
of the Moroccan occupation of the Western Sahara and plead for
a peaceful and lasting solution of the problem.
JUSTIFICATION
The above resolution, whose content is sufficiently explicit,
is an accurate translation of the resolution unanimously passed
by the Dutch First Chamber on 13 November 1979 .
