Draft Summary report of the meeting of the Socialist Group on
March II, 1980 in Strasbourg

The Chairman welcomed Miss RYAN, Chairman of the Sout~ Yor~Shire
County COuncil and Mr. THWAITS, Leader of the Council.
The Chairman announced the following changes in the Committees:
- ESTIER to replace MAUROY as Member of the Political Affalr,
Commi Uee;
- JAQUET to take the place of ESTIER as substitute Member of this
Commi ttee;
ESTIER to take the place of SARRE as substitute Member of the
Committee on Youth, Culture, Sport and Information.
The Group agreed to support the new Motion for a Resolution by
CLV/YO and others on the steel industry. tabled pursuant to Rule 14.
PISANI made a statement on the Motion for a Resolutio~ tabled by
the French Socialists pursuant to Rule 25 on agriculture. 1: was
agreed that this Motion would not be discussed in the Agriculture
Committee unti I it had fi rst be discussed in the Group's Idarking
Party on Agriculture.
The Group aqreed to the proposal of VAYSSADE to support the immigrant
workers of Hayange (Lorraine) by appropriate parl iamentary :neans
(e.g. letter from till~ Group Chairman, yisit by VAYSSADE, etc.).

The Group agreed by majority to the proposal of CASTLE to submit
amendments in the name of the Group to reinstate the original text
of paragraphs 7b and 10 of the Motion for a REsolution in PROVAN's
Report, and to yote against the Motion as a whole lf these amendments
were not adopted. The French and Irish ~1embers gaye notlCe that
they could not support the Group's position.

The Group decided against urgent procedure for the Motion for a
Resolution proposed by SARRE dnd others on fran, but agreed to
table this under Rule 25 on behalf of the Group and to make a
Press Statement.
