In the past the Group has taken the iniUatlve on uvora1 occa.ions,

political help for its sister partiee in the different countries which
ware struggling to re-establish democracy (notably, the PSP - Socialist
Party of Portugal, and the PSOE - Spanieh Socialist Worker" Party).

it actually joins the European institutions.

The talks with Andreas PAPA1~REOV. together with most of the leaders
of the PAS OK , were extremely fruitful. It was clear that, despite the
reservations of PASOK on Greek member~ip,

at the European parliament and he was very favourably di.posed to our wish
to see its representatives sitting as membere of the Sociali.t Group,
He did, howeve~. expr~"e the wi.h th.t the PASOK Members should be able
to preserve their freedom of expression and voting Within the Group. dnd

1he action taken by the community over the last few years has not
met thsse requirements, since it has been concerned mainly with price
prOblems and has not devoted SUfficient attention to tlle structural
prOblems of the market and of produCtlon.
For this reason tho Socialist Group is urging the European
Parliament to devote .. major cebat. to the prOblema of the Common
AgriCUltural Policy and has acco~in9ly .et up • Working party to
prepare for that debate.
