Note for the members of the SOcialist Group
The Group's relations with the press
Last October a Working Party on Press Affairs was set up under
the authority of the Group's Bureau to take charge of all matters
involving communications and relations with the press.
The working party has already held several meetings at Which
it considered a number of problems relating in particular to the
European parliament's internal communications (mare telephone
booths, better facilities for contacting members in the building,
etc.), facilities for journalists, especially those from radio and
television, who follow Parliament's work, and alsO group publications,
notably a new format for the EUSO
magazine.
As vicechairman
of the Group I am responsible for this working party,
which includes Ann eLWYn, Klaus HANSCH, Johan van MINNEN anc
Ruggero PULETTI.
Those of our colleagues in the Secretariat who
are responsible for the press service also take an active part in
its work.
The working party's most important initiative is the holding
of regular press briefings at the end of Group meetings in Brussels
and on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. during the Strasbourg part-sessions.
These briefings are noW very well attended by journalists, who
appreciate the regularity with which they are held and the
opportunity they provide to obtain rapid and detailed information
regarding the Socialist GrOUp's views on the various matters on
