1.2 Operational Structure<br />
1.2.1 <strong>Disability</strong> <strong>Services</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> Board<br />
The <strong>Disability</strong> <strong>Services</strong> <strong>Commission</strong> is governed by a Board consisting of nine<br />
members, at least five of whom either have a disability, have a relative with a<br />
disability, or have recent experience as a carer or an advocate.<br />
Board Members<br />
Mr Bruce Langoulant (Chairperson) has worked as a financial planner in the<br />
financial service industry since 1987. He is the parent of a daughter with multiple<br />
disabilities, Chairperson of The Meningitis Centre and President of the International<br />
Confederation of Meningitis Organisations. Term expires July 2010.<br />
Ms Valerie Shiell (Deputy Chairperson), the former Executive Director of <strong>Disability</strong><br />
in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts (WA), has extensive experience in the disability<br />
field, working in a range of service areas which include independent consultancy, the<br />
delivery of therapy services, employment services, alternatives to employment,<br />
independent standards monitoring, disability policy development and quality<br />
assurance. Term expires August 2008.<br />
Ms Sally Eves is a social worker/allied health professional in the Midwest Division of<br />
General Practice, Exmouth. She has personal experience of disability and extensive<br />
experience in the provision of services in rural and remote communities through her<br />
current and previous positions. Term expires January 2011.<br />
Mr Jim McKiernan has previously been a State Senator for Western Australia from<br />
1984–2002, and is currently a Sessional Member of the State Administrative<br />
Tribunal. Mr McKiernan has direct and relevant experience with disability issues.<br />
Term expires June 2011.<br />
Ms Kerry Allan–Zinner is Principal Trainer for Another Angle Consulting and<br />
Training specialising in disability awareness, access, communications and inclusive<br />
communities with formal contracts that include independent standards monitoring,<br />
Health Resource and Consultancy Team, lecturer at Curtin and Notre Dame<br />
Universities and customer service trainer for Swan Taxis. She has personal<br />
experience of a physical disability (Cerebral Palsy) and has a high profile as an<br />
advocate for people with disabilities in Western Australia.<br />
Ms Allan-Zinner is the Ministerial Advisory Council on <strong>Disability</strong> representative on the<br />
Board. Term expires September 2008.<br />
Ms Wendy Dimer has experience in the delivery of services to Aboriginal people with<br />
disabilities and has worked closely with staff from the <strong>Disability</strong> <strong>Services</strong> <strong>Commission</strong><br />
in Kalgoorlie to improve services. She has direct experience as a carer of a person<br />
with disability and has direct and recent experience in the delivery of services to<br />
people with a disability outside the metropolitan area. Term expires May 2009.<br />
