LAC Coordination was accessed by 40 per cent of service users and represented<br />

six per cent of the <strong>Commission</strong>’s budget. A further three per cent of the<br />

<strong>Commission</strong>’s budget was provided to service users via LAC Direct Consumer<br />

Service 4: Strategic Coordination Average Cost Per Strategic Project<br />

The Strategic Coordination Service includes the monitoring of progress by public<br />

authorities in implementing <strong>Disability</strong> Access and Inclusion Plans and improving<br />

access; data collection and monitoring of population trends to identify issues which<br />

impact on people with disabilities and their carers and inform the development of<br />

government policies and programs; policy development; monitoring the standards<br />

and quality of services; community education and disability awareness strategies;<br />

advocacy; and information.<br />

As the work conducted within this service enhances the environment for all Western<br />

Australians with disabilities, the costs are measured against the total number of<br />

strategic coordination projects and activities.<br />

The average cost of Strategic Coordination per project increased by seven per cent<br />

since the previous year. Subsequent to the target being set, additional one-off<br />

grants were made available in response to new strategic policy directions including<br />

assistance for local government to implement the ‘You’re welcome’ initiative and<br />
