The armistice begins on 17<br />

December, 1917, at noon (4 December,<br />

1917, at fourteen o'clock,<br />

Russian time) and extends until<br />

14 January, 1918, noon (1 January,<br />

1918, foiu-teen o'clock,<br />

Russian time). The contracting<br />

parties have <strong>the</strong> right on <strong>the</strong><br />

twenty-first day <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> armistice<br />

to give a seven days' notice <strong>of</strong><br />

termination ; such not being done,<br />

<strong>the</strong> armistice automatically remains<br />

in force until one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

contracting parties gives such<br />

seven days' notice.<br />

11.<br />

The armistice applies to all<br />

land and air fighting forces <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

said Powers on <strong>the</strong> land front<br />

between <strong>the</strong> Black Sea and <strong>the</strong><br />

Baltic Sea. In <strong>the</strong> Russo-Turkish<br />

<strong>the</strong>aters <strong>of</strong> war in Asia <strong>the</strong> armistice<br />

goes into effect at <strong>the</strong> same<br />

time.<br />

The contracting parties obligate<br />

<strong>the</strong>mselves, dirring <strong>the</strong> period<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> armistice, nei<strong>the</strong>r to augment<br />

<strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> detachments<br />

<strong>of</strong> troops stationed on <strong>the</strong> said<br />

fronts and on <strong>the</strong> islands <strong>of</strong> Moon<br />

Sound—this applies also to <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

organization and status—nor to<br />

attempt any regroupings in preparation<br />

for an <strong>of</strong>fensive.<br />

Fur<strong>the</strong>r, <strong>the</strong> contracting parties<br />

obligate <strong>the</strong>mselves not to undertake<br />

any transfers <strong>of</strong> troops until<br />

14 January, 1918 (1 January,
