Open Day at HZI On Saturday, May 08, <strong>2010</strong>, HZI opened<br />

its doors for everybody to have a look at the activities of the<br />

infection research centre. More than 1,800 visitors from the<br />

region came to get to know more details about infections,<br />

vaccines, biofilms, etc.<br />

Biotech Network ASEAN-MERCOSUL – Germany The<br />

internet platform of the ASEAN-South American-German<br />

Biotechnetwork (www.asag-biotech.net) was further improved.<br />

Now one can search for most of German institutes that<br />

are working in the biotech area, sensu latu. Furthermore,<br />

several institutes from Latin American countries as well as<br />

from ASEAN countries are listed. Also biotech-industries<br />

and events can be searched for. The platform allows direct<br />

acces to the most important institutions in Germany and<br />

other countries, to organisations that offer fellowships,<br />

calls, and possibilities of networking. The publication<br />

databasis of the <strong>Helmholtz</strong> Institutions, several patent data<br />

basis, some university libraries can be accessed easily. In<br />

June <strong>2010</strong>, HZI together with InWEnt and other partners<br />

organized a big symposium on “Networking and Technology<br />

Transfer”, which took place in Bangkok, Thailand. More<br />

than 150 scientists from Germany, Southeast Asian and<br />

Mercosur countries participated.<br />

Crèche and Kindergarten for Children of HZI Employees<br />

The HZI in cooperation with the Sterntaler Kindergarten in<br />

Braunschweig-Stöckheim offers childcare for those aged one<br />

year and older. In <strong>2010</strong>, 19 children were admitted to the<br />

kindergarten, 5 of them in the crèche and the others in the<br />

kindergarten.<br />

HGF-Mentoring Programme <strong>2010</strong>/11 In <strong>2010</strong> three<br />

female employees participated in the programme, and it is<br />

expected that another five will participate in <strong>2011</strong>.<br />

Audit “berufundfamilie” On November 27, <strong>2010</strong> the HZI<br />

was certificated again for further 3 years for that programme.<br />

Future Day for girls and boys In <strong>2011</strong> nearly 100 pupils<br />

between 12 and 16 from various types of schools visited<br />

the HZI at the Future Day. Fifteen different work groups<br />

participated and about 60 staff members showed the pupils<br />

interesting experiments and/or gave them ideas of the work<br />

at the HZI.<br />

of biotechnology” at the symposium “Networking and<br />
