paper disc. The disc, about 8<br />

inches in diameter, is mounted<br />

on the shaft <strong>of</strong> a motor. Motor<br />

speed is increased until, at<br />

about 13,000 rpm, the disc shat<br />

ters with almost explosive force.<br />

The noise is picked up be a mi<br />

crophone, amplified and used to<br />

trigger a single high-intensity<br />

flash from a Strobotac. The photo<br />

was taken in a darkened room to<br />

eliminate synchronization prob<br />

lems. Any camera having a<br />

"bulb" or "time" shutter position<br />

can be used. Exposure data:<br />

Kodak Royal Pan (ASA400);<br />

f/16; light source, a 1538 Strobo<br />

tac and 1538-P4 Energy Storage<br />

Capacitor.<br />
