It was obvious back in 2002 that<br />
Griffin Technology thought the<br />
iPod should do more than just<br />
play music through headphones.<br />
PowerPod helped early users<br />
charge their iPods in their cars, and<br />
PodMate was planned to transform<br />
the iPod into a universal remote<br />
control. But Griffin abandoned<br />
PodMate, repurposing the<br />
technology into another, smarter<br />
accessory: the iPod’s first FM<br />
transmitter iTrip. Suddenly, you<br />
could broadcast iPod audio using<br />
radio waves directly into any car’s<br />
stereo. A clean, tube-like design<br />
matched the early iPods, and<br />
software let you pick stations using<br />
their screens. It was ingenious.<br />
