The Free iPod + iPhone Book 4
Quick Start
When the Kit is
connected, a new
Nike+iPod menu
appears with four
workout categories,
Settings, and
History as options.
Select Basic, pick
a playlist, shuffled
songs, or no music,
walk to activate
the sensor, and the
workout begins.
You can pause or
end the run with
the Menu button.
ALL THINGS
Other Paths
If you want to set
specific goals for your
run, you have three
options. Time from 5
minutes to 9 hours,
59 minutes, Distance
from 0.05 miles to
99.95 miles, and
Calories from 5 up
to 9995. Your chosen
focus will appear on
the screen, letting
you see how close
you are to the goal,
with optional voice
cues as well.
PowerSongs and Kit Calibration
Apple also lets you pick one PowerSong - an “I
need energy” track - to activate with the center
button. Distance runners, note: Apple and Nike
state that the Kit is 90% accurate when unpacked,
rising to 97% if you use Settings for calibration.
Store, Sync, and Share
You can access past run data in History, but
that’s nothing: iTunes can transfer your data
to the Nikeplus.com web site, which lets
you view months of past performances in
graphical form, with a running tally at the
top of the screen to let you know just how
much you’ve run with the Sport Kit since
day one. The information’s also found on
the nano’s Totals screen, but nowhere near
as nicely presented as on Nike’s site. Of all
the iPod-related accessory pages we’ve
seen online, Nikeplus.com’s interface is the
best, making it easy and fun to track your
progress over time. You can even compare
your results against other Sport Kit users.
