Information for Contributors The primary aim of this Journal is to publish stimulating and informative articles on research and other scholarly output from Institute staff and students. Because of the diversity of the readership it is essential that the articles are presented in a lively, readerfriendly way, whilst at the same time being authoritative and of academic merit. At this stage we anticipate publishing three types of article: • Full research papers – full account of complete project, including experimental findings • Reviews – overviews of recent research in a larger subtopic • Short communications – early findings of ongoing research, critiques, comment, short essays etc. We also welcome ‘Letters to the Editor’ commenting on recent papers and encouraging dialogue between researchers and readers. Articles should be printed double–spaced on one side only of A4 paper. Margins should be 3 cm wide and pages numbered consecutively. Where ever possible arial 12 should be used as the default font, although other fonts & styles may be used for emphasis, titles etc. Articles must also be provided as a word file either on a CD-ROM, or as an attachment to an e-mail. Articles should be submitted to Debbie Fisher at the Towers Annex (fisherdj@grimsby.ac.uk). All articles should have a short, imaginative title to grab the reader’s attention. Each article should conclude with brief, biographical details of the author. Full research papers should begin with an accurate, informative abstract in one paragraph. It should not exceed 250 words. Following sections might consist of introduction, methods, results, conclusions and discussion. Review articles should begin with an introductory paragraph, with the main text broken up into three or four subheadings. Articles and papers should be between 1500 and 2500 words in length. Due to the wide readership of the Journal we advise that you ask a colleague in a different specialism to read your paper and confirm understanding prior to submission. Short communications by their very nature will vary in their format and style, but should be thought provoking and informative. Illustrations should be clearly identified with a figure number and caption. Where appropriate, the author should provide one very strong image for use on the title page. Other figures should be numbered consecutively using Arabic numbers and should be referred to in the text. FOCUS Page Page 95
