This framework seeks to reduce health inequalities by targeting: • Underlying social and economic determinants of health impacting socioeconomic status • Factors that are intermediate between socioeconomic determinants and health, such as behaviour, environment and material resources • Health and disability support services (i.e. Disability and healthcare services); and/or • The feedback effect of ill health on socioeconomic position (drawing on insights from the selective perspective discussed in section 2.1a above). Figure 2.8 below models the New Zealand Ministry of Health’s Intervention Framework to Improve Health and Reduce Inequalities on the basis of this synthesis of intervention and determinants of health frameworks (see next page): 24
