STANDARDS UPDATE<br />
In the fall of 1999 the TIA connecting hardware working group TIA. TR42.7.1 approved a new standards document,<br />
TIA\EIA-568-A-4, which defines test methodology and performance specifications for modular patch cords. With the<br />
release of this critical standard, the structured cabling industry now has a clearly defined method for testing modular<br />
patch cords to ensure category performance. The Siemon Company began using a test method comparable to that set<br />
forth in TIA\EIA-568-A-4 back in 1994. While the new standard recommends that manufacturers test patch cords to<br />
determine the quality and performance of cords, it does not specify the frequency of testing or percentage of cords that<br />
should be tested. To ensure optimum performance and quality for its customers, The Siemon Company has been 100%<br />
factory transmission tests every modular patch cord produced with a laboratory grade network analyzer since 1994.<br />
This combination of rigorous testing and stringent performance requirements allows us to guarantee that all of our<br />
modular patch cords meet their respective category performance requirements and corresponding networking<br />
applications now and in the future.<br />
