“A gift is only as warm as the heart it comes from. In the same way, learning is a gift from teacher to
pupil, and its effect has much to do with the effort in which the teacher works. For what reason is the
teacher working? Is there a heart in this present that the students are receiving, or is it merely being
forced down their throats? Clearly for Mrs. Hermsdorf, it is not the latter. Although I have known her for
only a short year, it is evident from her teachings that there is depth to her words, spirit to her lectures,
and energy in her instruction. She has shown me the joy in knowledge of chemistry and the many
adventures it contains. Her constant support, lively disposition, and overall kind-heartedness make her
that much more inspirational. I’m grateful for the chance to experience a foreign sense of comfort in
an otherwise challenging class, and for a refreshing learning experience that I won’t forget. Thanks.”
