“Mr. Tumlinson redefined the way I think by guiding us as we considered boundaries, frameworks, and
the truth. We pushed past the superficial, exploring the vast depths beyond. While Descartes never
said, “I think, therefore I am,” this misquote applied to us every single day in that classroom. As we
changed the way we thought, we changed ourselves. We matured and grew into thoughtful beings. Mr.
Tumlinson, someday I’ll read Gulliver’s Travels, and every time I see a jar, I’ll wonder where I should put
it. I’ll never forget to look for the nuances in my words, and I’ll think before I speak and then I’ll think again.
The differences between “same” and “similar” are too great to be discounted. But the greatest lesson I
learned is to not be afraid to voice my opinions no matter what they were. Thank you, Mr. Tumlinson.”
