Financial highlights <strong>2011</strong><br />

Marks & Spencer is one of the UK’s<br />

leading retailers. We sell high quality,<br />

great value clothing <strong>and</strong> home products<br />

as well as outst<strong>and</strong>ing quality food.<br />

Around 21 million customers visit our stores<br />

each week <strong>and</strong> we have 78,000 employees<br />

across the UK <strong>and</strong> 42 territories globally.<br />

The statutory results for the prior year are for the 53 weeks<br />

ended 3 April 2010. In order to be able to compare these with<br />

this year’s 52 week period, all comparative revenue numbers<br />

<strong>and</strong> growth rates are stated on a 52 week basis on pages 1 to<br />

37 u<strong>nl</strong>ess specified otherwise. The Financial review on page 34<br />

explains the calculation of the 52 week results in 2009/10.<br />

The Group also uses underlying profit measures, which are set<br />

out on pages 35 <strong>and</strong> 36 of the Financial review.<br />

In September 2010 Kantar Worldpanel changed its research<br />

methodology <strong>and</strong> as a result historical market share data was<br />

reprocessed <strong>and</strong> adjusted. The market share data used in this<br />

<strong>report</strong> is based on these updated figures. This data is not<br />

comparable to any published before September 2010.<br />
