There may be evidence that the new house was built by 1794; in Devizes<br />
there is another map, dated 1794 that also clearly shows the new house<br />
but the route of the canal follows the river to Chippenham, not the more<br />
easterly route with the branch canal to the town that is shown in the<br />
earlier map and which was the course actually built.<br />

Because of this the reliability of the dating of this map is questionable<br />
and it is not felt that a date of 1794 for the existence of the new house<br />
can be definitely made.<br />
