The legislation applies to all employees, unionized or not.
The legislation only addresses systemic discrimination against
women. It does not apply to complaints by men.
The Act is enforced by spot checks, audits and complaints.
As noted there is no time specific requirement to review pay equity and checks of pay
equity compliance are rare and random, as noted above. Council has yet to deal with or
implement the consultant’s recommendations relative to the Market Review of Salaries;
it would not make sense to undertake a pay equity review at this time.
The Market Review of Salaries carried out by McDowall Associates shows that the
female component of the workforce is fairly compensated when compared to male
counterparts.
