THE MUNICIPALITY OF LAMBTON SHORES D.S.C. Report No. 01-2013 Friday, November 30, 2012 TO: FROM : RE: Mayor Weber and Members of Council Brent Kittmer, Director of Community Services Communities in Bloom - Update RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that D.C.S. Report No. 01-2012 be approved and the Lambton Shores Communities in Bloom Committee continue with their efforts in the program. REPORT Lambton Shores has been a proud competitor in the Communities in Bloom (CIB) program for the past five years; three at the provincial level, and the past two at the National level. On October 13, 2012 we received the news that Lambton Shores had won its population category with a 5 Bloom rating and special recognition being given to the committee’s Native Tree Project. Lambton Shores was also recognized for its outstanding volunteers as the recipient of the Home Hardware Community Involvement Award. We were also a finalist for the Youth Involvement Award. The Committee Co- Chairs, Catherine Minielly and Grace Dekker, presented the awards to Council at the October 15, 2012 meeting. The success of Communities in Bloom would not be possible without a collaborative effort between the Municipality, residents, service clubs, community groups and businesses. There is a significant amount of coordination, planning and communication required in order to maintain the program, and the Committee should be highly praised for their efforts with the program over the past five years. The charts below summarize the marks Lambton Shores has earned during years of competition. As it can be seen, the marks have gradually improved each year. 71

The Co-Chairs had a chance to speak with the municipalities in our category and it appears to have been a tight race, with all five participants receiving the 5 Bloom rating.
