Page: 32 Prestige Philately - Auction No 145 Jun 13, 2009 COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA - First Day Covers (continued) Lot Type Grading Description Est $A 64 C A Lot 64 1928 International Philatelic Exhibition 3d Kookaburra horizontal pair from the base of a M/S, tied to an advertising cover for the Exhibition (see the flap, which is unsealed) by a fine strike of the Exhibition cds of 29OC28 in green, Cat $1000 (for a M/S with the standard red cds on cover): see also Lot 50. The only example we have recorded of this cancel in green on any type of cover, and thus the only First Day Cover known to us. For many years the ACSC referred to cancels in red or "green", with no reference to blue cancels. Consequently, the common blue impressions were routinely, and erroneously, called "green". The 1994 edition of the ACSC was the first to list all three colours. Examples of the genuine green cancels are truly rare with only a handful having been recorded. 2,000 65 C A- Lot 65 1930 Sturt Centenary 1½d red & 3d blue perforated 'OS' tied to House of Representatives cover (imprint on the flap) by two light strikes of 'PARLIAMENT HOUSE CANBERRA/9MY27/FCT' BW #140ya, minor blemishes, Cat $2500. Stated to be the only recorded First Day Cover of these stamps perforated 'OS'. 5,000

Exceptional quality. [The ACSC gives "8 June 1932" as the date of issue but records no First Day Covers. This new discovery is believed to be the only known example.
