Page: 84 Prestige Philately - Auction No 145 Jun 13, 2009 Lot Type Grading Description Est $A PAPUA Lot 224 224 ** A+ B1 1929 'AIR MAIL' Overprint Cooke Printing 3d as SG 112 but in the unrecorded shades of black & deep dark bluish green 'JBC' Monogram lower-right corner block of 12 (3x4), most units well centred, unmounted. Superb! An extraordinary proving block and an exciting new discovery 69 years after issue. Ex Tony Williams. [With a complete sheet of the normal shade 3d black & blue-green SG 112 for comparison] Jerry Blair Certificate (2009) states "This block is fresh as issued and has not been altered in any way. The colour is similar to that of the 3d colour error SG 98a...This block shows that the full story of the shades/colours of the 3d Cooke printings has yet to be told as this stamp [the overprint] should not exist in this colour. This is a spectacular & intriguing block of stamps that is worthy of a place in a specialised collection of these issues." 10,000 T Taxed lots are indicated by a small ‘T’ after the estimate. However, overseas clients pay no Australian tax.

Almost certainly the only surviving complete set of McCracken sheets. Ex Tony Williams. Rybak's ½d sheet plus 1d 2d & 4d imprint blocks of 4 (the 1d & 2d with the upper units lightly mounted) sold for $2645 at our auction of 26/4/2008.
