The ACSC states "The first day of issue in Sydney was 25 October 1951 (at least four first day covers are recorded". 91 C A+ - 3d green coil perf pair tied to plain JC Thompson cover by "his" 'GPO SYDNEY 130/4P 17DE51/NSW-AUST', typed "FIRST DAY OF/COIL STAMP" at upper-left, Cat $2500 (in a footnote at page 6/180). Superb! The ACSC states "Two first day covers are recorded cancelled at the GPO Sydney 7 December 1951". This is obviously an error for "17 December". 2,500 3,000 92 C A Lot 92 1951-52 Definitives 3½d brown-purple booklet pane of 6 tied to plain John Hawker cover by 'ELIZABETH ST PO/ PBR /11P 1JY52/ 2 /MELBOURNE' BW #253ya, typed "Booklet Stamps/FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" in red at upper-left, Cat $2000. Jun 13, 2009 Prestige Philately - Auction No 145 Page: 41 Lot Type Grading Description Est $A COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA - Postal Stationery 93 PS A/A- Extract - Lot 93 AEROGRAMMES: 1981 33c Mob of Sheep ASC #A54, and another example with All Printing Omitted from the Face & Partly Omitted from the Back Panel leaving only the admonition, code 'AG1(A)' & parts of the sender's address lines all on the back, the error with a minor bend but both unfolded. An extraordinary error, obviously caused by another piece of paper lying at an angle across this item during printing. 100 94 PS A- Lot 94 ENVELOPES - PTPO: 1920 1d red + ½d green + Sideface ½d green Menuz #26 for Vacuum Oil Co (imprint on flap), late usage from Melbourne to New Zealand in 1922 & unusually with 'Hutt Road, Thorndon' (New Zealand) return address printed at lower-left, 'HAVELOCK NORTH/20JA22/NZ' arrival backstamp, a few very minor blemishes that are quite insignificant, rare & grossly undercatalogued at $US2000. Australia's only "tripleton" and, as such, an item of great importance as well as the heightened visual appeal from bearing an extraordinary combination franking of embossed & surface-printed stamps. This issue was uprated in 1918 for the ½d War Tax & again when postage rates increased in 1920. At that time, priority work for the embossing machines was for envelopes issued by the Post Office, so the surface printed ½d was added. Sinfield's very fine example sold for $13,225 at our auction of 20/11/2004; & Schumann's less fine example sold for $6900 at our auction of 22/4/2006. This example is unusual in that virtually all PTPO Envelopes were used to Australian addresses] 6,000 Bid by fax, e-mail or directly from our website to avoid the disappointment of your bids arriving after the auction.
