An important new discovery. Rodney Perry Certificate (2009) states "Kellow records two examples; this is another". However, Kellow states at p163 that the first example discovered was "irretrievably lost": see also Philately from Australia (Dec 2008) at p107 where that statement was repeated by Richard Breckon. The example previously believed to be the only known example sold for $15,680 at our auction of 25/1/2003. Unique! Ex Purves. [The only other proof material recorded for this value are two completed die proofs, one of which is in the Royal Collection. Illustrated by Kellow at page 234] 1879-96 Stamp Duty £5 hand-drawn stamp-size essay in pencil & watercolour wash on thin card, very similar to the approved version in which a number of design elements - lettering, numeral, corner & side ornaments - were changed. Ex Purves. A unique and delightful example of "art in miniature".
