Prestige Philately - Auction No 145 Jun 13, 2009
Congratulations to Dr Geoffrey Kellow, RDP
Geoff Kellow is one of Australia’s most respected and distinguished philatelists. He is best
known as editor of the “Australian Commonwealth Specialists’ Catalogue”, widely regarded
as the finest one-country catalogue in the world. Geoff is also currently the editor of the
“Bulletin” of the Australian Commonwealth Collectors Club of NSW and convenor of the
Australian States Study Circle. He is a long-time member of the Royal Philatelic Society,
London and the Royal Philatelic Society of Victoria of which he has served as both President
and Chairman of the Expert Committee.
A remarkably well-rounded philatelist, Geoff has written on an extraordinary array of
subjects, and has published major works on “The Stamps of Victoria” and Australia’s
“Kangaroo & Map” series. He has been awarded Gold Medals for his exhibits of Victoria’s
“Queen-on-Throne” and “Shilling Octagonal” issues, and his current exhibits include Sierra
Leone and the Indian Feudatory State of Kishangarh. Importantly, he is always generous with
sharing his knowledge.
In 2009, Geoff Kellow has been invited to sign the prestigious Roll of Distinguished
Philatelists at the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in July. This is the highest of all
philatelic honours and the culmination of a remarkable professional and private career
dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge and the attainment of excellence in research,
publishing and exhibiting.
All of us at Prestige Philately join Geoff’s countless friends and admirers in toasting his
election as an “RDP”. The award could not have been made to a more deserving recipient.
The Bernie Manning Collection of Queensland
Sidefaces, Large Chalons, Charities etc
The Queensland Sesquicentennial Auction
It is appropriate that Melbourne collector Bernie Manning has chosen 2009 as
the time to sell the balance of his Queensland stamps, as this year marks 150
years since Queensland was created as a separate Colony.
This exceptional collection - probably the finest of its type ever to be offered
at public auction - could have been incorporated into our Seventh Annual
International Rarities Auction. However, we considered that it was of such
significance that it deserved its own catalogue.
Bernie Manning’s Queensland will be offered for sale at 7pm on Saturday
13 th June. If you have not received the catalogue, please contact us now
and we will rush a copy to you.
