This RLMP has been compiled generally in accordance with the Strategic Framework for
Mine Closure (ANZMEC/MCA, 2000), Guidelines to Mining, Rehabilitation and
Environmental Management Process (DPI, 2006) and Bengalla’s Mining Operations Plan
(MOP) (2006).
1.3 Management Plan Objective
The primary objective of this RLMP is to address the requirements of DA 211/93 (M1)
and to plan for rehabilitation and mine closure at Bengalla to satisfy regulatory and Rio
Tinto Coal Australia (RTCA) requirements.
This RLMP includes preliminary details of the Final Void Management Plan and Mine
Closure Plan based on existing and available information. This is consistent with the
explanatory note included in Development Consent Condition 33 (Table 1) which allows
for the subsequent revision of this RLMP to include a detailed Final Void Management
Plan and Mine Closure Plan. As mining at Bengalla is currently planned and approved to
continue for at least 10 years, a detailed Final Void Management Plan and Mine Closure
Plan will be developed at least five years prior to mine closure.
