• Differentiation is challenging (Teacher and Principal Focus Groups)<br />

• Need for professional development to support non-English speaking students (Psychologist Focus Groups)<br />

• Lack of systemic professional development opportunities in literacy (Current Programs and Practices Questionnaire)<br />

Action Step Year 2 Annual Update- June 2012<br />

1. Prioritize and sustain funding to support literacy Professional development, literacy resources and interventions have been funded<br />

professional development. cooperatively in an inter-departmental initiative to focus resources on literacy in 2011-12.<br />

Departments that provide time, staff, resources and professional development include:<br />

Curriculum & Assessment; Educational Services; Professional Development; Assistant<br />

Superintendent's Offices; State & Federal Grants (Title I); REaL Grant; Diversity; and Equity<br />

& Family Involvement.<br />

All5 <strong>School</strong> Support Teams will include a central office literacy representative in 2012-13 to<br />

ensure fidelity of literacy core practice and implementation in all classrooms.<br />

The Professional Development Department hired a K-8 Literacy Teacher Leader to assist in<br />

the coordination of literacy across all departments.<br />
