PRACTICAL IDEAS FOR SELLING SEATS BY PRACTICAL SHOWMEN
It is almost impossible to walk
through Rockefeller Center these
days without walking into a group
of curious visitors taking a guided
tour for which the Rockefeller interests
collect S1.20 a person.
That gives rise to a thought for
theatremen who would promote interest
in their own theatres.
How about guided tours, one or
two nights a week, with capable and
fluent ushers to escort theatre patrons
through the boiler rooms, projection
booth and other points of
A spiel on carpeting, decorations,
interest?
painting, statuary, cost and
length of time required for construction
might give the patron
something to remember you by. As
a gratis service, the gesture could
develop into a worthwhile venture
which would be worth the effort.
There would also be a greater incentive
to keep out-of-the-way
places clean and orderly so that inspection
visitors would obtain only
Honor Roll emblem.
Bill Reisinger, Loew's, Dayton, has
a check for §100 to add to the
Bonus awarded him by BOXOFFICE
last month for winning the national
film book contest sponsored by
MGM on "The Hucksters."
From England comes word that
still another Bonus winner. Jack
Campbell, has gained advancement
for his fine promotional work at
Scala Cinema, Runcorn, Cheshire.
During the past week Camp-
where he assumed management
of the Essoldo Theatre, Central
Outside Spectaculars
The largest and most spectacular animated
display ever erected for a Philadelphia theatre
was used to exploit "Tycoon" at the
Goldman in that city. The huge display was
authorized by Lyle Trenchard, general manager
for the William Goldman Theatres, and
suggested by Ray Meyer, Goldman manager.
The entire display stood 23 feet above the
top of the marquee. It was a reproduction of
a mountain and a tunnel such as that depicted
in "Tycoon." The device was com-
