The two-day all-Negro bill at the Royal will<br />
be continued for alternate weeks as long<br />
as business holds up, Neil Hellman said. He<br />
reported that the first show drew well. In<br />
addition to increased advertising, radio time<br />
is being purchased. Circulars are also distributed.<br />
Thirty per cent of the audience for<br />
the opening bill was white. A large part of<br />
the population in the neighborhood of the<br />
Royal is now Negro . . . Fred Haas, chief engineer<br />
for Fabian Theatres, made a prewinter<br />
Inspection of houses in Albany, Cohoes,<br />
Schenectady and Troy. He also took a looksee<br />
at the Mohawk Drive-In. Haas, who<br />
spent two months here last spring supervising<br />
the remodeling of the Leland, said he had<br />
noted an increase in labor productivity. A<br />
steadier flow of materials is one of the reasons<br />
for this.<br />
Frank Cunning-ham, former assistant at<br />
the Grand here, and at the Family, Utlca,<br />
was a member of the Knights of Columbus<br />

decided to make a complete story of the Pacific<br />
phase of the war. Shea added, "We<br />
expect that the audience in the latter part of<br />
1950 will be double if not triple the present<br />

The local film colony is prepared to extend<br />
a "welcome home" greeting to C. J. Latta,<br />
former Warner Theatres zone manager here,<br />
who now is managing director of ttie Britishi<br />
affiliate, when he and his wife make a visit<br />
in January. They will sail from Southampton<br />
December 10 aboard the Queen Mary and<br />
will spend the Christmas holidays in New<br />
York City. They plan to come to Albany early<br />
in January as guests of Fred I. Arciiibald.<br />

"Chicago Deadline" is reported to have<br />
been proved a sleeper at the Strand. Another<br />
film that did nicely was "Without<br />
Honor" at the Ritz . . . Oscar Perrin, Ritz<br />
manager, and other local film men who have<br />
seen the English-made "Saraband," consider<br />
it one of the most spectacularly produced,<br />
beautifully acted and superbly photographed<br />
pictures they have recently seen,<br />
"Saraband" is a historical costume feature<br />
best suited to class audiences.<br />
