his interest to Forest Songer. The new theatre<br />

will be called the De Luxe Drive-In. All<br />

"The Story of Seabiscuit" opened in 45 new<br />

spots this week. It is showing in 90 spots in<br />

Indiana.<br />

Herman Morgan, salesman at U-I celebrated<br />

his bu-thday at his home. Among<br />

those giving happy returns was Charles Acton,<br />

Republic salesman, who gave Herman a<br />

large white duck. Herman will fatten the<br />

fowl for his Thanksgiving dinner . . . Peter<br />

Rosian, district sales manager, U-I, was here<br />

for a meeting with the local sales group.<br />

Ted Mendelssohn, manager at U-I, has purchased<br />

the Princeton Drive-In at Princeton<br />

the Madrid at Akron, has opened a<br />

Guy Faul 72, Stricken;<br />

Winchester Showman<br />

WINCHESTER, ILL. — Guy Faul, former<br />

owner of the Lyric Tlieatre here, died recently<br />

at the age of 72. Faul<br />

and his former partner J. J.<br />

Overton operated the Lyric for<br />

some 33 years, until 1947. Both<br />

men were veteran showmen of<br />

many yeax's' standing.<br />

In addition to operation of the<br />

Lyric, Faul had many other interests<br />

in the community. He<br />

was editor of the Winchester<br />

Times, had served as city clerk<br />

and city treasurer, was an Odd<br />

Fellow and past president of<br />

the Kiwanis club. He was a<br />

Guy Faul member of the St. Louis area<br />

Motion Picture Theatre Owners organization.<br />

After 1947, Faul continued as part owner<br />

of the Lyric with Paul E. Stehman as a partner,<br />

until May of this year, when he sold his<br />

interest in the theatre to Stehman.<br />

Jerseyville, 111., Stadium<br />

Opened by Pirtle Circuit<br />

JERSEYVILLE, ILL.—The new Stadium,<br />

700-seater was opened on East Pearl street<br />

by the Pirtle Amusement Co. last week (9).<br />

It is<br />

the 11th unit in the Pirtle cii-cuit, which<br />

includes the 500-seat Orpheum here, and is<br />

headed by Sam Pirtle of this city. The theatre<br />

was constructed by the Brockmeyer Construction<br />

Co. of St. Louis of steel and brick.<br />

Work was begun last April. The interior is<br />

of stadium-style.<br />

Pirtle entered exhibition here about 27<br />

years ago when he purchased the present<br />

Orpheum on North Side street from the late<br />

Zed Reddish.<br />

Scout Theatre Reopens<br />

MENOMONIE. WIS.—The Scout Theatre,<br />

which was closed for remodeling, was reopened<br />

recently with "Nighttime in Nevada."<br />

The house, formerly the Orpheum, was closed'<br />

for ten weeks for complete renovation. Improvements<br />

include a new canopy, heavy<br />

gla.ss doors, new concessions stand, new lighting<br />

and acoustic ceiling, new carpeting and<br />

seats and reconditioned projection equipment<br />

Norman Suckow is manager of this and another<br />

local theatre.<br />

OREENCASTLE, IND.—Harold G. Reck-i<br />

ley, operator of the Chateau Theatre here]<br />

is confined to the Putnam county hospital<br />

after an appendectomy. He suffered a rup-i<br />

tured appendix a week before its removal.<br />
