Omaha Minister Boosts
Hollywood in Magazine
OMAHA—An Omaha minister had some
good words to say about Hollywood this week.
The Rev. Lawrence Acker, pastoral adviser
of a Lutheran film at the RKO studios, was
featured on the cover of the World-Herald
Sunday magazine with a full-page story inside.
"I went to Hollywood thinking I was going
into a cesspool of hell, but I found many of
the supervisors, actors and actresses to be
regular churchgoers and active in religious
activities," he said. "I formed a very different
idea about them."
The film people, he said, were not arrogant
—they weren't even unfriendly. He soon
found them consulting him on scenes of the
picture and eager to sit down and talk things
over.
The pastor of First Luthern church here
first went to Hollywood in 1946 to a.ssist in
the making of "Messenger of Peace." Two
years later he was back to help with "The
Sickle and the Cross." He plans another
trip this spring, he said.
Two Iowa Theatres
Make Price Boosts
DES MOINES—Admission prices at two
Iowa theatres were raised last week. The
rapid rise in the cost of living was given as
reason for the boost both at the Ogden in
Ogden, Iowa, and the Sutherland at Sutherland.
For the Sutherland the 10 cent increase,
from 40 cents to 50 cents for adults,
was the first in six years. The 10-cent childrens'
admission remains the same. Owner
Don Herny of the Sutherland said high film
transportation costs, film rentals and other
operational expenses made the admission advance
necessary.
At Ogden the boxoffice is selling tickets to
adults for 45 cents, boost of five cents. Children's
admissions remain at 10 cents. Similar
reasons for the increase were given by
Manager McGraw.
60 cents and is planning similar moves in
New theatres under construction
his circuit . . .
before the federal ban on amuse-
ment building which will be allowed to be
completed, include the Volk brothers' 1.200-
seat house in Robbinsdale, Minneapclis suburb:
a run of nine nights and three matinees be built on the west end of the theatre after
to capacity houses. The theatre had to return
