In addition to assessment <strong>and</strong> improvement of <strong>STUK</strong>’s actions also the Management<br />

System of <strong>STUK</strong> is updated, assessed <strong>and</strong> continually improved. This includes especially<br />

assessment <strong>and</strong> improvement of accessibility <strong>and</strong> user-friendliness of the Management<br />

System as well as assessment of structure <strong>and</strong> guidelines.<br />

In addition to the evaluation <strong>and</strong> improvement of operations, the Management System<br />

is also maintained, evaluated <strong>and</strong> improved continuously. Improvement of the Management<br />

System pays particular attention to the structure of the system (also to the structure<br />

of manuals <strong>and</strong> guides), availability <strong>and</strong> evaluation <strong>and</strong> improvement of user interfaces.<br />

Each manager is responsible for the internal implementation <strong>and</strong> development of the<br />

management system in his/her area of responsibility. This especially includes<br />

• Definition of the operational organisation <strong>and</strong> work processes<br />

• Commitment of units <strong>and</strong> staff to quality consciousness <strong>and</strong> to the<br />

management sys-tem<br />

• Emphasis on quality criteria in management <strong>and</strong> development<br />

• If necessary, the appointment of people responsible for monitoring, reporting<br />

<strong>and</strong> developing the performance of the management system. These people are usually<br />

also members of the quality group.<br />

The implementation of Management System is independently assessed by annual audit<br />

programme <strong>and</strong> internal inspections. Annual self-assessments are carried out in <strong>STUK</strong><br />

(Guide <strong>STUK</strong> 6.3). The main focus of these assessments is to identify measures for the<br />

improvement of the management system. All individuals are encouraged to participate<br />

into self-assessments <strong>and</strong> also to bring up other improvement ideas.<br />

Guide <strong>STUK</strong> 1.2 Each employee in <strong>STUK</strong> is responsible for the quality of his/her own<br />

work. This also includes cooperation <strong>and</strong> active transfer of information, when the task<br />

or matter in question requires it.<br />

The head of an organisational unit is responsible for taking care of that the employees<br />

of his/her unit continuously have reasonable duties essential from the viewpoint of the<br />

organisational unit’s objectives <strong>and</strong> that the employees have possibilities to work<br />

efficiently <strong>and</strong> in a way of good quality Therefore, the employees shall have good<br />

possibilities<br />

to get sufficient information on matters related to duties <strong>and</strong> working conditions<br />

to discuss <strong>and</strong> to get support in matters related to duties<br />

to get sufficiently information on training possibilities <strong>and</strong> on other occasions<br />

related to the increase of expertise<br />

to make proposals for the development of his/her duties <strong>and</strong> <strong>STUK</strong>’s activities<br />

Personnel has the right <strong>and</strong> the responsibility to report to the management on the work<br />

related problems or other factors that have a negative impact on the working<br />

conditions or work motivation (Guide <strong>STUK</strong> 5.1)<br />
