SQID 4.2 Directors and section heads are obliged to supervise the fulfilment of the management system in his/her own sector Every STUK employee is responsible for the quality of his/her work (Guide STUK 1.2) . STUK employees have to observe the management system (Guide STUK 1.1). STUK has the following means to review the fulfilment of the requirements of its management system: Internal audits. The main purpose of the audits is to make clear whether or not the STUK processes and tasks are performed according to the requirements of the management system (Guide STUK 6.1). External audits. The main purpose is the same as above, but sometimes is advisable to hear opinions also from experts other than those of STUK itself (Guide STUK 6.1). Management reviews. These reviews try to find out if the management system is working as it should (Guide STUK 6.4). Self assessments. These assessments try to find out if there is something to be improved in the management system (Guide STUK 6.3). Customer feedback (Guide STUK 6.5). In addition, STUK regularly benefits international peer reviews to assess the management system. PQ 5 The scope and frequency is the following: Internal audits (Guide STUK 6.1): This activity is continuous. Every year about half a dozen processes or activities are audited pertaining to regulatory work. STUK has 30-40 internal auditors to do the audits. Some 10-20 persons are interviewed in
these audits yearly. The work, however, is not systematic for all processes. The reasons is that STUK has so many duties and tasks and processes that it is not possible to audit them all with reasonable frequencies. External audits (Guide STUK 6.1) have been carried out approximately once a year, e.g. audits by KPMG and VTV Management reviews (Guide STUK 6.4): These reviews are carried out every year and in all organizational levels of STUK. Self assessments (Guide STUK 6.3): These assessments take place every year. They are usually arranged in a departmental level, but in addition to this, also offices and laboratories arrange them occasionally. Customer feedback (Guide STUK 6.5): The stakeholder and media surveys are carried out every second year. In addition, it is separately decided if some specific customer feedback survey is needed in some sector. The scope of these studies varies from questionnaires sent to some tens of customers to some hundreds of customers In addition customers may give feedback to STUK any time either by phone, mail, e-mail, the internet or fax. SQID 5.2 The establishment, implementation, assessment and continuous improvement of the management system support the planned and systematic performance of regulatory activities. By these actions the management system of STUK enhances the safety culture in the organization. The safety culture aspects have been adopted in the Quality Policy of STUK and Rules of Administration (Guides STUK 1.1 and STUK 2.1). STUK’s quality policy states that safety and quality are emphasised in operation. STUK develops and maintains a high safety culture in its operations.
