6.3 Loglinear <strong>analysis</strong><br />

The contingency table <strong>of</strong> the frequency <strong>of</strong> occurrence (present/absent) <strong>of</strong> all species<br />

combinations <strong>of</strong> Wild buckwheat, Dandelion and Wild Oats <strong>for</strong> 150 locations in field #1<br />

is given in Table 6.4. The symbol “0” indicates species was not present at any particular<br />

location and the symbol “1” indicates species was present at that location. Table 6.4<br />

illustrates that, out <strong>of</strong> 150 locations, 34 locations do not contain any <strong>of</strong> three species,<br />

whereas 12 locations contain all <strong>of</strong> them. Per<strong>for</strong>ming a loglinear <strong>analysis</strong> (SAS/STAT,<br />

2003) on these data described in section 5.7 demonstrates that the saturated model can<br />

be significantly reduced to obtain a more suitable, unsaturated model containing less m-<br />

way interactions. This section has made an attempt to introduce such a model.<br />
