<strong>Course</strong> overview<br />

This course combines the Bachelor of Applied<br />

Science <strong>and</strong> the Bachelor of Social Science, <strong>and</strong><br />

prepares students for employment or selfemployment<br />

in the rapidly changing cultural,<br />

technological <strong>and</strong> business environments.<br />

Students are able to extend their areas of study<br />

beyond the combinations of major <strong>and</strong> minor<br />

sequences required in single degree courses,<br />

giving students flexibility <strong>and</strong> expertise beyond the<br />

limits of a narrow vocational orientation. For<br />

This double degree combines studies in the<br />

sciences associated with biotechnology together<br />

with studies in media <strong>and</strong> communications. It<br />

aims to develop an underst<strong>and</strong>ing of<br />

communications <strong>and</strong> media, an advanced<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the social context of<br />

technological developments, an ability to define<br />

<strong>and</strong> analyse social issues related to science <strong>and</strong><br />

technology, <strong>and</strong> excellent skills for professional,<br />

scientific <strong>and</strong> lay communication.<br />

Human Biology, Chemistry, Science Mathematics,<br />

Media Literature Film: Texts <strong>and</strong> Contexts,<br />

Concepts of Biotechnology, The Media in Australia,<br />

Biochemistry, Microbiology.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

Prepares graduates for careers in the media <strong>and</strong><br />

communications industries, where their expert<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the sciences associated with<br />

biotechnology will allow them to deal critically<br />
