This course provides specialised education <strong>and</strong><br />

training for scientific laboratory support staff<br />

encompassing a wide range of skills, techniques<br />

<strong>and</strong> processes so graduates are competent to<br />

meet the technological <strong>and</strong> administrative<br />

dem<strong>and</strong>s of a changing workforce in the science<br />

<strong>and</strong> food industries.<br />

Biological Sciences stream: a range of specialist<br />

areas that include: biotechnology, microbiology,<br />

anatomy <strong>and</strong> physiology, <strong>and</strong> zoology.<br />

Chemical Laboratory stream: skills in chemical<br />

analysis using a range of chemical<br />

instrumentation techniques.<br />

The course includes methods of minimising,<br />

by-products with regard to the environment, thus<br />

enabling graduates to advise management on<br />

their legislative duties. Major studies include:<br />

environmental law, planning for emergencies,<br />

ecologically sustained development, cleaner<br />

production, environmental management.<br />

Successful completion of the diploma may also<br />

allow articulation into <strong>Swinburne</strong>’s Bachelor of<br />
