Victorian Year 12 or its equivalent, or mature age.<br />

Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment<br />

work or voluntary experience directly related to<br />

the youth sector.<br />

<strong>Course</strong> overview<br />

Diploma: aims to provide students with the<br />

knowledge <strong>and</strong> skills required to function<br />

effectively as youth workers in a variety of<br />

community settings. The course provides<br />

students with a firm theoretical framework<br />

complemented by a strong practical focus<br />

through field experience <strong>and</strong> work related<br />

assessment. Major studies include: casework<br />

skills, community <strong>and</strong> group work, psychology,<br />

program design <strong>and</strong> development.<br />

Certificate IV: provides an entry level qualification<br />

for employment in youth work roles with<br />

community <strong>and</strong> residential services. Major studies<br />

include: communications, case planning <strong>and</strong><br />

management, human development, legal<br />

frameworks, sociology of youth, community work.<br />

Career opportunities<br />

Diploma: local government youth programs,<br />

housing, health, employment, juvenile justice,<br />

child protection <strong>and</strong> recreation programs.<br />

Successful completion of the Diploma may also<br />

allow a Pathway to the Bachelor of Social Science<br />

(Human Services).<br />

Certificate IV: direct care roles in residential care,<br />

juvenile justice <strong>and</strong> community support.<br />
