From the perception of women it was found
that after the Maoist came in main stream
politics, the situation felt better. The peace
process was taking its shape but in the
meantime different criminal groups
emerged. For instance, land less women
explained that they had fear from thieves
who entered from India. There was a fear of
young girls being raped while collecting
grass and firewood from the jungle.
"Though, the political conflict is over we are still
facing the problem of robbery and we are still
afraid to wear golden ornament"
(FGD with youth women from Makawanpur)
Additionally, women mentioned that
different criminal groups were increasing
and being active in Sarlahi and Mahottari.
Moreover, women from Mahottari had
mentioned that there was huge fear of
kidnapping children for their kidney and
eyes. Due to which they were even afraid to
send their children to school which was
supported by landless women as well.
Interesting findings was that none of the
women mentioned that they had fear of
being kidnapped or killed however in the
absence of men in house, they were often
fearful of kidnapping or killing of their
family members. Priority was given to the
family members than their own life.
