Suggestions from
Research Participants
We received a number of
suggestions from research
participants, regarding ways to
deal with the increased psychological
distress. The suggestions can be
summarized as follows:
AWARENESS RAISING
• Since, women were dominated by men
who think that women are not able to
perform as well as men; there should be
efforts to increase the awareness of men
concerning the human rights of women.
There are currently different groups in
the community, but meetings and
discussions were perceived to not be
properly arranged. Women mentioned
there should be better planned
discussions, consulting with the people
of relevant communities prior to
implementation.
• Strong networks of women should be
developed so that women can provide
the message of unity and speak with one
voice
• Training and awareness raising should
focus on the young generation rather than
elder so that future generations of women
could be empowered
• Elder women should be made aware of
the harm caused by superstitions and
conservative thinking
• Women should be informed about their
rights
• Women should be informed on the legal
rules and regulations that have been
developed to deal with violence against
women
ASSURANCE OF EQUAL
PARTICIPATION IN
COMMUNITY AND
OTHER ACTIVITIES
• Decision making positions should be
allocated to women and this should not
be limited to promises on paper only.
• Women should be given the chance to
speak and talk about their feelings freely,
e.g. in community meetings and
interactions.
• Laws related to women should be
implemented in practice and these
should not be limited to promises on
paper only.
• There should not be any kind of bias to
participation in different programs on
the basis of sex. Men and women should
participate equally in trainings,
discussions and meetings so that men can
understand the views of women
