Ground-launching requires an additional small rocket booster to get the missile<br />
off the launcher whereupon the engine is ignited until the missile flies aerodynamically.<br />
Air-launching does not require a booster rocket, but only a release mechanism to<br />
drop the missile away from the aircraft before the engine takes over. The Chinese have<br />
