The continued issuing <strong>of</strong> national calls <strong>for</strong> bids from the<br />

National Research Agency (ANR) <strong>and</strong> the Directorate-<br />

General <strong>for</strong> Enterprise (DGE), <strong>and</strong> European calls <strong>for</strong><br />

bids <strong>for</strong> the 7 th FPRD in areas covered by the Institute<br />

enabled IFSTTAR to achieve total contractual orders <strong>of</strong><br />

€17.6M in 2011, which represents an increase <strong>of</strong> 2.2%<br />

over 2010.<br />

The sources <strong>of</strong> this contractual income are shown in the<br />

diagram. 73% <strong>of</strong> the notified contracts were from the public<br />

sector <strong>and</strong> 27% <strong>of</strong> the Institute’s contractual activity directly<br />

involved a partnership with the social <strong>and</strong> economic spheres<br />

THE INDUSTRIAL SECTOR<br />

In 2011, IFSTTAR reported income <strong>of</strong> more than €6.6M that<br />

directly involved an industrial partner or a local or regional<br />

authority. These activities with or <strong>for</strong> the social <strong>and</strong> economic<br />

spheres relate involve partnership-based research, expert<br />

appraisals, tests <strong>and</strong> certifi cation. In 2011, almost half <strong>of</strong><br />

this direct income was from the design <strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong><br />

“structures”, including engineering structures <strong>and</strong> civil engineering<br />

in general. The area <strong>of</strong> <strong>transport</strong> covers the organization<br />

<strong>and</strong> optimization <strong>of</strong> <strong>transport</strong> systems <strong>and</strong> the road <strong>and</strong><br />

rail sectors: this accounted <strong>for</strong> a third <strong>of</strong> IFSTTAR’s revenue<br />

in 2011.<br />
