ADVISORY FOR WEB-BASED AND HYBRID COURSES<br />
Students taking web-based and hybrid courses must have<br />
basic computer skills for operating Micros<strong>of</strong>t Word and e-mail,<br />
including sending attachments and files. Students also need<br />
access to the Internet and must have adequate hardware and<br />
s<strong>of</strong>tware capabilities. Access to computers is also available at<br />
the <strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> Library/LRC.<br />

COLLEGE COMPOSITION<br />
AND READING<br />

Introduction to composition with emphasis on writing <strong>of</strong><br />
exposition, and reading <strong>of</strong> selected works from a variety <strong>of</strong><br />
academic and cultural contexts, and writing from research.<br />
Students will write a minimum <strong>of</strong> 6,500 words in graded<br />

English 1B is an introductory literature survey course that<br />
focuses on reading and writing about four basic literary genres:<br />
drama, poetry, short story, and the novel. The course provides<br />
instruction and practice in critical thinking and forming literature<br />
based arguments. This course introduces the major schools <strong>of</strong><br />
literary and cultural theory common to study in the humanities.<br />
Students will write a total <strong>of</strong> 6,000 words including essays,<br />
