HARTNELL COLLEGE<br />
What is Orientation?<br />
Orientation is designed specifically to help students succeed in college. Orientation provides important information on <strong>Hartnell</strong> policies,<br />
procedures, academic requirements, educational costs, student support services, college success techniques and strategies, and other<br />
important topics. Upon the completion <strong>of</strong> Orientation, students will have knowledge <strong>of</strong> general education, college policies, university transfer<br />
requirements, and certificate and degree requirements.<br />
How long is Orientation?<br />
Orientation is a 2 hour session with an optional 1 hour <strong>of</strong> registration assistance for those students who wish to register for <strong>classes</strong><br />
immediately after Orientation is completed. Student Ambassadors will be available to assist you in registering for <strong>classes</strong> either online or by<br />
phone.<br />
Who should complete Orientation?<br />
All new <strong>Hartnell</strong> <strong>College</strong> students should enroll and complete Orientation preferably before or during their first semester.<br />
Who has to complete Orientation?<br />
All new students are highly recommended to take Orientation EXCEPT:<br />
• students who have earned an AA/AS degree or more advanced degree;<br />
• students who are enrolling in less than 6 units;<br />
• students who have a goal <strong>of</strong> “personal interest” only;<br />
• students who have completed an orientation at <strong>Hartnell</strong> or at another college or university;<br />
I think I am exempt from having to take Orientation. What do I do?<br />
See a Counselor and work with the Counselor to complete a Prerequisite Clearance form. When you meet with the Counselor, be sure to bring<br />
any relevant documentation with you like un<strong>of</strong>ficial or <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts.<br />
Should I see a Counselor?<br />
Yes! All students are encouraged to schedule an appoi ntment with a C ounselor for educational planning; course selection; career<br />
development; major selection; individual counseling; personal development; connecting to other services; and referral programs on and <strong>of</strong> f<br />
campus. To schedule an appointment with a Counselor, call (831) 755-6820.<br />
There are two ways to complete the Orientation requirement:<br />
1. Call for an Orientation appointment at (831) 755-6820. Please see the calendar on the web at www.hartnell.edu/orientation.<br />
OR<br />
2. Complete the online version <strong>of</strong> Orientation. Online Orientation can be found at www.hartnell.edu/orientation<br />

Attendance Policy, Balancing Work and School, Grade Point Average, Academic<br />
Renewal/Probation, Student Support Services, Student Rights, Responsibilities, & Student Conduct<br />
• SELECTING A MAJOR OR EDUCATIONAL GOAL<br />
General Counseling, Career Planning & Development Courses<br />
• GRADUATION AND TRANSFER KNOWLEDGE<br />
