Students taking web-based and hybrid courses must have<br />

A general introduction to the study <strong>of</strong> social interaction and the<br />

organization <strong>of</strong> modern society. Topics include culture; social<br />

structure; socialization; deviance and crime; class, ethnicity,<br />

and gender; social institutions; collective behavior and social<br />

Identification and examination <strong>of</strong> contemporary social problems<br />

in American society. The analysis <strong>of</strong> problems <strong>of</strong> social<br />

institutions (including the economy, government, and family),<br />

problems <strong>of</strong> social inequality (including poverty, race, ethnicity,<br />

and gender), deviance (including crime and substance abuse),<br />

and demographic problems (population and urbanization) will<br />

will be enhanced by exposing students to the life, people, and<br />

cultures <strong>of</strong> the Spanish speaking world. Course designed for<br />
