NC Early Education and Childcare A F What will I study? This course will give you a foundation in childcare and education, enabling you to seek employment at Assistant or Support Worker level as stated by the Scottish Social Services Council (Council (SSSC) visit http://www.sssc.uk.com for more information. The course consists of classroom based child-related topics, along with a childcare placement to support and develop your practical skills. The course covers various topics including: holistic approaches to child health, play in early education and childcare, developing an understanding of working with children, first aid, supporting children’s behaviour, developmental theory, HIV/Hepatitis B and C, child development, supporting children’s rights and entitlements and core skills. Part of each term is spent following a teaching programme in college and the remainder is spent on work placement, gaining practical experience. You will be supported in making links between theory, placement experience and personal/professional development. How will I be assessed? Course assessment will include written assessments; group exercises; projects; case studies; practical exercises. Will there be work experience? Part of each term is spent following a teaching programme in College and the remainder is spent in a workplace setting gaining experience and practical skills. What are the entry requirements? IELTS level 5.0 or equivalent. Can I go on to further study? (Telford, other colleges and university): You may progress to HNC Early Education and Childcare. Where can this course lead me when I finish studying? On successful completion of this course, you may seek employment as a nursery assistant/nursery support worker.
