Foundation Course<br />
in Social Care A F<br />
What will I study?<br />
This course is a mixture of college based learning and work<br />
experience, giving you a solid understanding of social care skills as<br />
well as practical experience. It is an ideal introduction to the skills<br />
needed to work in a variety of social care settings, for example<br />
equal opportunities, introduction to counselling, investigating skills<br />
for care, numeracy and communication.<br />
How will I be assessed?<br />
Your work will be continuously assessed through written<br />
assignments, case studies, reflective diaries and essays. You will not<br />
be asked to undertake examinations.<br />
Will there be work experience?<br />
The work placement, which is an essential part of this course, is<br />
negotiated and supported by your tutor and will be normally 2 days<br />
per week from November to April/May.<br />
What are the entry requirements?<br />
IELTS level 5.5 or equivalent.<br />
Can I go on to further study?<br />
(<strong>Telford</strong>, other colleges and university):<br />
You can progress to the HNC in Social Care, HNC Counselling or<br />
Social Sciences. If you have successfully completed the Foundation<br />
Course in Social Care you will be granted an interview for the HNC<br />
Social Care.<br />
Where can this course lead me when I finish studying?<br />
Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to<br />
employment in the social care sector. Once in employment you<br />
may be given the opportunity by your employer of undertaking<br />
SVQ II whilst working. You can then progress on to SVQ III and SVQ<br />
IV Manager Award. (SVQ – Scottish Vocational Qualification).<br />

WORK IN A VARIETY OF SOCIAL CARE SETTINGS, FOR<br />
EXAMPLE EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES, INTRODUCTION TO<br />
COUNSELLING , INVESTIGATING SKILLS FOR CARE,<br />
NUMERACY AND COMMUNICATION.<br />
